How to get my Live Classes delivered to YOU! What is a Podcast anyway?

I am sooooooo copying this directly everyone, word for word (adding a couple of my own words here and there) from my friend Victor Cajiao, from The tpcu_yellow_header.jpg . So please don’t think I came up with this explanation all on my own! And once you get this Podcasting thing figured out, subscribe to his show! It rocks! It inspired me to get all geeky and stuff, and that’s a good thing. It’s really because of Victor that I’ve gotten this far with this podcasting thing, really. I learned to be much, much more tech savvy, at my own time! Anyway here goes the information!!!!!

What is podcasting?

If you don’t know what Podcasting is, check out the Wikipedia:

About Podcasting

Briefly, the word podcasting comes from two words: iPod and broadcasting. Although the word is derived from iPod, you do NOT need an iPod to listen to the audio program. Any MP3 player will suffice. I think i should make that clear again…YOU DO NOT NEED AN IPOD!!!!
In fact, you do not even need an MP3 player. All you need to listen to the audio program is an internet connection (preferably broadband), a computer, and speakers or headphones.

In fact, here is a fantastic PSA for Podcasting by Uncle Seth co-written by John C Havens of the about.com Guide to Podcasting

In other words, a podcast is simply an MP3 audio file that you can download from the Internet. Once the MP3 audio file has been downloaded, you can either listen to it from your computer or you can transfer it to your MP3 player – which is great because you ultimately decide when and where you want to listen to it.
What makes podcasting special?

If you have a portable media player (like an iPod) and you want FREE content delivered automatically, that would be an Elsie class delivered automatically to you, automatically to you (how cool is that?), then podcasting is for YOU

How Can I Listen

1) Click on the link below to download the free,
cross-platform program ‘iPodder’

or one of the other Podcast-aggregators. You might also want to install the free program iTunes

2) Right-click on the XML button below and copy/paste the link into iPodder

3) Your Podcast aggregator will download the episodes automatically to
your computer, and to your mp3-player!

For those of you who already have itunes, I copied this next little tutorial from another great podcast by Jesuits! Yep, Jesuits, it’s called Pray-as-you-Go, very very highly produced and incredibly inspirational, really, you’ll be surprised!

My podcast URL is http://scy.libsyn.com/rss, so obviously whenever you see http://www.pray-as-you-go.org/mp3/rss.xml, you substitute my podcast URL

I hope all this makes it soooooooooo easy for y’all!!!! Have fun discovering Podcast land!

Open iTunes. On the toolbar, click AdvancedChoose Subscribe to Podcast from the drop-down menu.
“Paste” the podcast URL into the box
(CTRL and V, if you are working on Windows)
Click the OK button. At this point, you are subscribed to pray-as-you-go.

I’m new to yoga (with all of one class under my belt) … and the only male in my class … so having the opportunity to hear another voice, sense another soul, and practice with another master, is a wonderful opportunity. Thank you so much for giving of yourself to all of us …

    Hi Elsie,
Got your beginner’s class, really incredible, 30 minutes into it, I was feeling really worked out – it feels like am really exercising.

I was wondering if you have a video of your beginner’s class as well?

    Anyway, great class.

how do we download other podcasts besides course 76, lights, shining lights, by going passionately into the darkness, which is great

I really MUST update this page. It’s soooooo outdated and NOT at all helpful 🙂 Thank you for calling attention to it!

In order to download any other classes you can go to the iTunes music store, search for Elsie’s Yoga Class: Live and Unplugged Podcast and you should be able to download them from there, for free!

If you would rather do it via the site, on the side bar, if you go to the category cloud, and click on to the word PODCAST, you’ll get a list of all my episodes 🙂

Hope that helps! Let me know if I need to be clearer. I appreciate you taking the time to write!

[…] I have found a really lovely class online taught by Elsie Escobar, an instructor in California who is generous enough to distribute free audio podcasts of her classes (or you can listen right on your computer if you don’t have an mp3 player). She even kindly gives instructions for downloading podcasts. […]
